Rice Crop Monitoring Using Sentinel-1 SAR Data: A Case Study in Saku, Japan

Global warming affects rice crop production, causing deterioration of grain quality. This study used C-band microwave images taken by the Sentinel-1 satellites to monitor growth with aim understand backscatter behavior, focusing on decreases in panicle water contents ripening, which affect backscatter. Time-series changes illustrated a similar tendency across all four analysis years, showing that VV/VH ratio at an incidence angle 45–46° stopped decreasing be stable over reproductive and ripening periods due reductions content allowed for greater penetration into canopy, thereby increasing panicle-related Furthermore, multivariate regression combined field observations showed VV VH shallow angles were significantly negatively correlated content, well demonstrated increases plant senescence. it was observed behaviors highly consistent phenology surface condition. Accordingly, high revisit observation capabilities offer strong potential estimating content. Therefore, seems reasonable conclude SAR data is capable retrieving filling conditions estimate proper harvesting time.
